Distracting Players

Do you ever acquire that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the closest casino, to find a high stakes game of Hold’em, to sit at a Black-jack table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I like to scratch it.
I also love to watch folks gamble. No two poker faces seem similar. When I wager I like to think I put on a poker face that is impenetrable. But I know I have particular mannerisms. For 1, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I play poker or Blackjack. And then I smoke. Except I smoke regardless of whether I am winning or losing, whether or not I’ve a great hand or bad.
I once bet within a weekly poker game. The game was usually 5 card draw. There was a gentleman who bet with us every week who constantly wore a hat. When he was given a beneficial hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and playing with his hat. Pointless to say, he in no way won.
The greatest poker player I ever saw was a gentleman who made additional movements and gestures at a poker table than anybody I had ever seen. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Generally an high-priced suit and tie, footwear shined and nails trimmed. He was diligent in this manner. And he was usually brushing his pants or rubbings his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.
I use to examine him for hours on end. I would attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Selecting fuzz off his jacket- did this imply he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a great hand?
Many years later I bumped into him within a bar in Chi town and we had a beer. I asked him if he have been aware of all those motions he manufactured or if they have been subconscious. He told me that just about every individual thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is usually checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are attempting to spot the the tell.
So his technique was to give them lots to believe about. His reasoning was if they have been thinking about him choosing a piece of lint off his coat and what it meant they positive weren’t pondering about their cards.
His technique was distraction. And it worked for him. In no way give up a technique that functions for you.
