by Maci on Nov.28, 2016, under Poker

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
