Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi-low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of entrants often get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in nearly all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.
