Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
