Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
