Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
