Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha hi/low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players often get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in nearly all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
