Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Maci on Apr.26, 2026, under Poker
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players around the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
