Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Maci on Oct.21, 2026, under Poker
Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
